Managerial role:  Ran department of award-winning newspaper that included up to 8 full-time staffers, 6 part-time staffers and 10 freelancers.  Navigated department through many changes including fluctuations in ownership, leadership, personnel, resources, print space, growth of the digital product, restructuring of beats and changes to programs used to produce the products, while increasing readership and reader engagement.  Administered yearly evaluations, coordinated weekly schedules and daily coverage resulting in engaging product.  Performed interviews for job openings and on-boarded and trained new employees.  Fashioned and worked with a travel budget of up to $50,000 and freelance budget of $48,000, allocating resources where they would produce the most impact. Digital role:  Oversaw, developed, and produced online content and placement of online stories and photos, resulting in yearly increases in page views despite tightening of paywall.  Pushed stories on Twitter and through Morning Call subscription alerts, resulting in increased reader engagement.  Produced daily three-item briefs that were produced into videos shown at minor league baseball and hockey games for three seasons, increasing company and departments profile in the community.  Created daily and weekly stories dealing with both local and national news and posted online.  For five years, created daily sports newsletter consisting of top stories of the day.  Worked with ARC, CCI Newsgate, Google docs, Mediaserver, Microsoft Word, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Urban Airship. Print role:  Oversaw, planned and coordinated day-to-day and long-term coverage, which included obtaining of credentials, booking photo coverage, fashioning of print product including story placement, editing, photos, headlines.  Included planning ahead on larger feature and enterprise stories.  Responsible for planning and producing of up to eight special sections a year.
