Biomechanics Research Assistant
Dublin
The Sports Surgery Clinic (SSC), located in Santry, Dublin, is a state of the art private hospital spanning 12,500sq.m, dedicated to the treatment of orthopaedic, spinal, sports and exercise related injuries. The SSC is a world class centre of excellence in the surgical reconstruction and rehabilitation of ACL injuries, with over 600 ACL reconstructions carried out by its Orthopaedic Surgeons per year.I worked as a Biomechanics Research Assistant working in the newly built Sports Medicine building, a space dedicated to the rehabilitation of all types of injuries. Having a large multi-discipinary team all operating under one roof, I continually collaborated with Physiotherapists, Strength & Conditioning coaches, Sports Physicians and Biomechanists on a daily basis. The services I provided primarily revolved around conducting biomechanics-based testing protocols for patients following ACL reconstruction, shoulder stabilisation surgeries, athletic groin injuries as well as elite athlete performance testing. I regularly carried out data analysis and conducted several research projects.Daily responsibilities included:- Conducting 3D motion capture laboratory testing sessions for patients with varying injuries- Conducting upper- and lower-limb strength testing via isokinetic dynamometry for ACL-R, shoulder and ankle-injured patients- Post-testing data processing and interpretation of kinematic and kinetic variables- Research projects relating to the use of biomechanics in the rehabilitation of ACL ruptures and reconstruction- Providing formal training and support to interns undergoing placements at the SSC
