I worked part time as a cleaning supervisor at the University of Plymouth Students' Union to support myself financially during my MA. Initially, my role included ensuring the venue was maintained at the highest standard of cleanliness, adhering to all health & safety requirements and maintaining an awareness of the wellbeing of students within the venue, particularly if they had been drinking. After working this role for around 5 months, I was offered the opportunity to take on extra responsibilities and become a Supervisor. After this, my role changed slightly and involved taking charge and leading a group of around 5 or 6 other cleaners, ensuring that they all had individual tasks to work on and that these were being completed in a timely and professional manner. As well as this, I became a key holder, making me responsible for the closing of the venue at the end of the night, which included locking up and setting alarms.
