Hvac Engineer / Assistant Pm
Temp-Art Mechanical Inc
My job consisted of designing HVAC ventilation for commercial and residential buildings. On the Engineering/Design side, I'm used AutoCAD MEP to create duct shop drawings, calculate heating & cooling loads, and just apply myself to whatever challenge comes along the way. I'll be honest... working in mansions was much more interesting than commercial work. However, many of the designs required a good vision and understanding of HVAC systems so I'm glad I learned something useful!Dealing with Project Management, on the other hand, was challenging. I'm wasn't that great of a manager because I focus so much on my work at hand. However, at times, I would have to run the whole show by coordinating project statuses, working with work with the men on the field to find any problems regarding installation, and report back to the president. Also, being taught to do takeoffs, estimate and bid proposals have been really helpful. So, in the end, I grew "tough skin" and became a better manager than I thought I could ever be. I was definitely the "middle-man" between engineering and project management in this company but I can say it taught me a few lessons:1. Always focus on improving your value by being a step ahead of the game. 2. Unwanted stress will always come with work. Prepare to be stressed out!3. Be accountable for yourself. If you make a mistake, put it out there.4. Be honest with yourself. Always search for what is right (even when management may not agree).
