As Technical Director, managed a team of 20 subsystem leads in building both the team’s combustion and electric vehicles. Modified the design process to emphasize defining requirements, critically evaluating design solutions, then validating that designs meet requirements. Met with each subsystem on a weekly basis to assess and aid with progress. Restructured team leadership to create a vehicle dynamics position. Built a variety of low-DOF vehicle models, focusing on transient response and stability, to develop vehicle and suspension design targets, including tire selection, yaw stability, torsional stiffness, aero targets, ride/roll rates, kinematic goals. Vastly increased the number of sensors on the vehicles and used this data to validate models and tune suspension, differential, and aero settings. As Outboard Suspension Lead, developed a beam model of the upright to estimate stresses as a function of dimensions of the welded box structure. Improved manufacturing tolerances on the upright and inboard suspension mounts with proper fixturing, control of warpage during welding, and post-machining. Managed suspension manufacturing for both electric and combustion vehicles.

Modeled and conducted vehicle-level tests of the Model 3 brake fluid reservoir and accelerator pedal feel. Redesigned and prototyped a Model S/X production sheet metal bracket. Designed and built a component durability test bench, including wiring and control of an electronic actuator, packaging and assembly of DAQ electronics, and mechanical design of component fixture.

Performed topology optimization and finite element analysis to design 3D printed suspension components for the Blade supercar (technology showcase). Worked with: the suspension designer to package kinematics and meet deflection requirements; manufacturing engineers to create laser sintered parts holding desired tolerances; and aesthetic designer to ensure parts fit the vehicle’s motif.
