Working on a growing team, I accepted the opportunity to expand my management responsibilities and spend less time on individual contribution. Inspired by our head of department’s leadership, and under her mentorship, I learn and employ fundamental techniques for leading effectively and sustainably. I work with team members and third-party services to generate engineering and testing outputs. I support individuals and help evolve company culture. Beyond the needs of projects I lead, I research topics relevant to our products and refine product requirements.

Combining engineering, regulatory compliance, quality systems, and experience with self-guided roles in startup teams, I brought specific knowledge across a variety of functions. My product development work — mechanical and integration of electronics — considered manufacturing constraints and implications for future iteration in addition to end requirements. Shortly after hire, I reduced the cost of a sheet metal enclosure design 50% by optimizing for use-case constraints. I led electrical safety, radiofrequency, and performance testing efforts, including NRTL Listing.

From my engineering position, I stepped up to become sole manager of regulatory compliance and quality systems. I wrote and maintained quality documentation, handled audits, trained employees, and obtained HACCP certification. For in-house quality control, I built customized spectroscopic data collection and analysis processes for testing products and ingredients.

As one of the first staff members, I helped transform this small health company into a large-scale nutritional supplement producer and was quickly promoted to Production Engineer. In developing and scaling production processes, I provided support for chemical reactions, microbial growth, separations, and automated lines.
