As a buyer, I work with over one dozen vendors (including Zebra Technologies, Touch Dynamic, and Sato) in the United States, Canada, and Latin America to purchase hardware, software, warranties, spare parts, and business development programs for value-added resellers. My main responsibilities include writing service contract, drop-ship, replenishment, and stock request orders. I work with vendor representatives and the sales, accounting, finance, marketing, and logistics departments at BlueStar to remediate issues involving product discontinuations, replacements, lead times, delays, and order expedites. In addition to purchasing, I help run multiple reports tied to data visualization and inventory value display, to ensure that the company is growing at a steady and profitable rate and that waste and excess inventory is properly handled to minimize costing and inventory management issues. I also assist in the management of the company-wide database system.

As a logistics replenishment intern, I assisted in the purchasing of grocery products for Kroger distribution centers and stores throughout the country. Utilizing purchasing software, my main responsibilities included writing purchase orders for vendors that we were contracted with to ensure a smooth, continual flow of product. I worked with multiple buying teams, and was responsible for handling products ranging from Marzetti salad dressings, dried, packaged fruits from The Ugly Company, and deli meats. My longest rotation had me working with the meat and deli team, helping with the purchasing and transportation logistics for the Puyallup, Clackamas, and Alaska areas of the Pacific Northwest. I partook in daily and weekly meetings to discuss order reviews, product allocation disruptions, transportation issues, weekly digital deals, and seasonal changes that might have affected how certain products performed. Additionally, I managed weekly meetings with my team’s VMI buyers to ensure that product was replenished continuously and department-specific business metrics were at or above the acceptable level.
