This line of experimental research focuses primarily on human judges interpret A/B interrupted time-series data. Specifically, it investigates how factors such as autocorrelation (serial dependence) and forms of confirmation bias may bias human judges (as well as non-robust statistical models) in favor of type-1 errors. Extensive analyses have been conducted on these using R, and a manuscript for publication is currently being written.

This experimental early research project will introduce students to Data Visualization using the Global Environment for Network Innovation (GENI) infrastructure in the development of empirical cybersecurity labs/experiments, including DoS and DDoS Traffic & Repeatable Experiments. GENI is an open infrastructure for at-scale networking and distributed systems research and education that spans the US. Instructors of undergraduate networking, distributed systems and cloud computing classes use GENI to provide students with hands-on learning experiences on a real, large-scale network. The research this summer will help in the creation of a curriculum that accommodates students of different levels of computer literacy and focuses on experiential learning via cloud computing.
