Junior Youth Mentor
CurrentAt Young Life West Side in New York City, I am a Leader for the middle school, aka WyldLife. I meet with them weekly during the school year to talk about their lives, experiences, and play with them as a caring adult. This involves a lot of interpersonal communication and active listening on my part. It is also a constant test of patience, as expected with working with children, but I greatly enjoy being what many adults were to me as a child: Someone who cares.I have also been a Camp Counselor at both the Summer Camp and Fall weekend events, in which I would always be around the kids, making sure they stayed safe, had fun and came to camp events. These forced much leadership and group organizing skills into my skillset, as herding children requires a LOT of attention. We would, as counselors, also have some one-on-one time with each of the kids, again using the communication skills.
