My passion for management comes form years of experience in the service industry. I've worked with some amazing managers and they've shown me that, when done well, managing can accomplish some truly amazing things. While I haven't actually worked as a manager yet, I've been working alongside managers, observing, and helping my managers since I started my first job. I started my first job at 16 as a Host for Old Chicago (a restaurant and taproom), and by the time I was 17 I had been promoted to trainer and was the head host. I managed and trained my hosts until I finished my time there at 18. I gained valuable knowledge on how to lead a team effectively and efficiently, how to teach and guide new members, as well as how to organize a team to play to their strengths. My time at Old Chicago served me well, and prepared me for my current job at Sunglass Hut as well. I have worked at Sunglass hut for the past year and I have already learned so much from my job, my team, and especially my managers. Since day 1 at Sunglass Hut I was expected to learn and grow and handle the responsibilities expected of me. I was given basic training and then basically let go to learn by observing those around me and from simply doing the job. making many mistakes along the way. I adapted fast to this environment and learned how to observe others more experienced than me and then to apply that knowledge in my actions. Whenever I made a mistake, my team was there to support me and teach me, which taught me the importance of a good team and to not be afraid of making a mistake as long as I learn and grow from it. I am now one of the top performers at my store, and am the person my managers look to for help managing the store when they're gone. This experience has been invaluable and I can't wait to apply what I've learned in an actual management position.
