As a controls engineer, I work on the mechatronic design of our machines that are used in the aerospace industry. This includes being involved in the sensor and actuator selection; prototyping; working directly with the customer to refine design requirements; commissioning hardware and tuning drives; Siemens PLC programming; microcontroller programming in C++ and C; HMI programming and design in Siemens WINCC and C#; NC programming and commissioning (Siemens 840D); debugging and troubleshooting; installation of the machine; and customer support after buy-off.

Design of tight-tolerance precision tooling for the aerospace industry. I was directly responsible for a large portion of the product life-cycle of my designs. This involved interacting directly with the client to determine design constraints, designing the product, prototyping, overseeing manufacture, and assembling the product.

Researched improving the responsiveness of a PNN-PZT smart paint impact sensor through the addition of multi-walled carbon nanotubes.

Researched new control feedback techniques for teleoperated robots and other cyber-physical systems by extending human proprioception (i.e. our sense of how our limbs are distributed in space) to a simulated robot to give the human an intuitive understanding of the robot's pose. The product of our research was a vibro-haptic wearable which utilized the haptic funneling illusion to give high-resolution feedback of our simulated robots pose to the wearer.In addition, I had daily learning modules on topics related to cyber-physical systems such as signal processing, modeling dynamic systems, embedded systems, and controls. I also had guest lectures from LANL and non-LANL researchers twice a week on cutting edge research in robotics, controls, dynamic systems, machine learning, vision processing, and other related topics.

Successfully developed and applied a novel non-contact point excitation technique for ultra-lightweight structures.

I learned metal fabrication skills - such as welding, cutting, and drilling - to build high-end architectural products.I also helped with design for assembly of products in an environment where every item was wholly custom. In addition, I used AutoCAD and Inventor to do CAD for communication with architects, builders, engineers, and clients.
