About Ethan Tu

Ethan Tu currently is a 4th-year PhD candidate at Michigan State University. His passion for solving medical problems through the engineering process began in high school and blossomed at Case Western Reserve University. During his university career, he performed ophthalmic research with Dr. Rony Sayegh and Dr. Charline Boente at University Hospitals, where he designed 3D printable instruments to aid in slit lamp examinations and corneal transplants. At Binghamton university, working with Dr. Ahyeon Koh, he designed PDMS biosensors capable of monitoring cortisol levels in sweat of human subjects. Recently at Michigan State, he is focusing on generative AI for distant learning of object detectors. By generating convincing pathology present images for object detector training, we hope to improve overall detection performance. His current research interests include machine learned informed clinical decision making, AI pathology detection, and generative AI.
