Daytona Beach, Florida Area

As an astronomy lab assistant‚ I supervise a class of approximately 20 other students in the safe and efficient operation of university-owned telescopes and equipment. As part of a lab assistant team of 4‚ I assist in development of educational practices and programming intended for use in the classroom. During non lab meetings, my coworkers and I test equipment, assuring functionality and quality, as well as determine if upcoming class exercises will sufficiently teach learning objects outlined by the class syllabus.

As a Resident Advisor (RA) I participate in a weekly on-call crisis response rotation for a community of 1‚000 residents‚ working alongside a team of 15 other RAs‚ out of a group of 65 RAs. I work constantly to build a cohesive community between 48 residents and demonstrate the commitment to develop strong living learning communities by building positive relationships with residential students and introducing and implementing educational and social programming which emphasize diversity and inclusion. In addition‚ the role requires customer service skills‚ which often utilize problem-solving and mediation of conflict between students and/or guests.

During my period of employment as a MATLAB tutor, I worked with a variety of students who possessed a broad range of learning styles, and as a result learned to adapt my teaching and communication styles to thee various students who required assistance. As a MATLAB tutor, I worked in a staffed computer lab, providing free form supplemental instruction to students who struggled with coding concepts, as well as clarifying properties of the coding language. In addition, while serving as a tutor, I assisted in development of several structured supplemental class sessions for students who wished to learn the basics of Graphical User Interface design and control, and executed this lesson plan with students interested.
