The Civic Design Lab applies human centered design and systems thinking to public sector problems. As the lead city official overseeing the Civic Design Lab, my role focused on building internal buy-in and apply user-centered design principles to policy and product development within City Hall.Led the the community engagement, policy design, and ordinance development of a healthy housing inspection program for the City of Oakland.Product manager for the Rent Adjustment Program (RAP) Online Petitioning System and informational website, a web-based mobile friendly service that allows tenants and property owners to file RAP petitions online. Services were developed using a human centered design approach and extensive inter-departmental planning and community outreach. Assisted with the implementation of the Mayor’s Housing Cabinet recommendations—outlined in the report Oakland At Home—to preserve affordability in 17,000 households and build 17,000 new homes over 8-years through the leveraging of roughly $815 million in foundation, private, federal, state, and regional funding sources.

Developed a financial analysis tool to assist department staff in financial underwriting of permanent supportive housing operating expenses.
