Tuan Nguyen worked as Deputy Managing Editor for Zing News (Zing.vn), a leading digital news site in Vietnam, during 2015-2023. Before that, he was an award-winning journalist with the leading Tuoi Tre newspaper, the most-circulated daily print in Vietnam, during 2006-15. He covered international news, including regions of Asia, US and Vietnam-US relations. In 2013, he was in Tacloban and Guiuan of Philippines to cover super typhoon Haiyan, which claimed almost 7.000 casualties. Early 2014 he covered the missing of the MH-370 when the plane was suspected to crash in Vietnam. He was also in Thailand to cover the unrest leading to the coup d’état in 2014. Tuan Nguyen has also done investigatory stories for Tuoi Tre, investigating the visa-selling scandal at the U.S. Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City in which the NIV officer getting over US$10 million by trading visas, exposing the rhino horn smuggling by Vietnamese embassy staff in South Africa (2008) and the abuse and maltreatment of 200 Vietnamese female laborers in Jordan (2008), reporting the mistreatment of Vietnamese fishermen on foreign vessels in South Africa (2006). He won the Ho Chi Minh City Press Club Award in 2015 for exposing a scam by HCMC’s Education Department and a private company (EMG) which lied about their cooperation with UK’s authorities. During his time in New York from 2010-2013, he interned at the video unit of the New York Times. He also covered breaking news for DNAinfo New York (DNAinfo.com), one of the leading local news in the City, doing both reporting and multimedia work with photography and video. He won the prestigious New York Press Club 2013 Award for Spot News for his coverage of Hurricane Sandy. His other awards include 2nd Runner-up 2012 Dragon Boat Festival Photo Contest in New York and the Chancellor’s Scholarship of CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in 2010-2011AY. His publishing credits include The New York Times, The New York Daily News, Channel News Asia. Tuan got his Master of Arts degree in multimedia journalism at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism in 2011 on a Fulbright scholarship. He did his BA in International Politics at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (formerly the Institute of International Relations).
