About Eric Toalston, M.Ed.
I am an insightful and resourceful problem solver, driven to find innovative solutions to complex problems. As a natural leader, I am guided by integrity and dedicated to collaboratively working with others for the betterment of all. Further, I am an enthusiastic learner and an effective communicator who thrives in an environment where analytical, organizational, and technical skills can be leveraged. You will be hard pressed to find a harder working, more conscientious individual. I am continuously looking for opportunities to utilize and grow my skills in a way that benefits others.I recently earned my master's degree in education (MA Ed) – specifically learning design and technologies. This pairs well with my Ohio teaching licenses in mathematics (MCE) and science (MCE and AYA), allowing me to design instruction (units, lessons, and activities) that incorporates educational technology (EdTech) in ways that differentiate learning to benefit all students. I enjoy learning about emerging technologies by digging into the tools myself; I believe this allows me to create interactive, engaging learning activities. Previously, I taught postsecondary mathematics and physics courses for ten years at a two-year college. I have also served in higher education as a science lab technician for six years and a graduate assistant for two years. At the end of my graduate work, I received the Outstanding Master's Student Award from the Division of Education (Walsh University). In addition, I received the Adjunct Excellence in Teaching Award (Stark State College) in 2009. Because integrated STEM education is a particular passion of mine, I conducted a qualitative research study and wrote my master's thesis on the conceptualization of STEM education in a small, rural school district. Current research informs my decisions, and I am guided by best practices. Further, I firmly believe that the results of active collaboration among diverse individuals are of significantly greater quality than what any of us can produce individually. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Finally, in all I do, I am guided by my commitment to excellence as well as serving others in a way that promotes equity and social justice.
