I have spent my teaching career working with children of all ages. I have worked in an infant, toddler and preschool classrooms, as well as primary and secondary grades. I was also a coordinator for Cornell University providing Parent education programs. Reggio Emilia schools have always inspired my teaching style as I was trained by the Italian teachers from those schools in 1990 at Ohio State. I use that knowledge to encourage a sense of wonder in children to find their own learning style. Each child has an amazing ability to transform knowledge into action in a personal way. Every child learns and digests information differently and the learning happens through play. I believe that worksheets and formal instruction hinders the learning potential of a young child and they need hands-on learning through play. Exploring their natural world and creating their interpretation of the information gives them an understanding that they can learn anything and attempt any challenge that comes their way. I enjoy helping children become "Life Long Learners" who are thrilled when they learn a new skill!I would like to work in a program that understands and believes in my teaching philosophy and embraces a Reggio Emilia Inspired curriculum in a supportive environment.
