I'm a member of Farella Braun + Martel's Intellectual Property & Technology Group. My practice focuses on all types of intellectual property litigation, with a special focus on patent litigation. I have counseled and represented clients in patent, copyright, trademark, and trade dress disputes in the fields of computer software, microprocessor architecture, drug-eluting stents, capillary electrophoresis, chromatography, computer network storage, DVD encoding and encryption, the use of haptics in video game consoles and controllers, prepaid cards, payment card encryption and security, online downloadable media, and replaceable refrigerator water filters. I have advised and represented clients in all aspects of litigation, including Markman hearings, jury trial, and on appeals before the Federal Circuit. I have succeeded in obtaining complete verdicts in favor of his clients, including the entry of judgment in favor of the defense on a 5-patent case at the Markman hearing, obviating the need even for summary judgment. I have represented a leading provider of computer database software and storage in obtaining summary judgment of non-infringement and also represented a global payments technology company in obtaining summary judgment of invalidity. I have also defended a manufacturer of capillary electrophoresis and chromatography equipment in a patent and trademark dispute that led to a decisive summary judgment that reduced the damages by 98%. I have represented some leading pioneers of DVD encryption and encoding technology in patent disputes that led to favorable settlements for his clients. My experience teaches me to apply my legal knowledge and strategic thinking in finding the most cost-efficient solution to an early adjudication on the merits of a case, or when necessary, shaping difficult and complex technology cases for trial.
