Eunice Chen Email and Phone Number
I entered Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Computer Science with little prior programming experience and only my enthusiasm for learning. Over the course of freshman year, I struggled through my classes, but also developed a passion for computer science. It shaped and changed the way I saw the world: I wondered how I could use the Gale-Shapley algorithm in my relationships, or pondered how I could analyze my social networks with Dijkstra. My passion for learning and computer science led me to research, where I worked with Dr. Robert Murphy to develop machine learning campaigns to drive active learning in the computational biology field. I developed classification campaigns using SVMs and clustering methods to serve as a comparison for new models being built by our lab. Though the research is still in progress, we were able to conduct preliminary testing, yielding promising results.Seeking industry experience, I worked for General Dynamics the next summer as a Software Engineering Intern. Utilizing my front-end development skills, I collaborated with other developers to build a web-application and wrote unit tests to ensure our application behaved as required. The application was deployed by the end of my internship, and by initial reports has greatly improved client workflows.During the school year, I teach labs and develop course content as a teaching assistant. I love helping people understand concepts they were struggling with before and spreading my own love for functional programming along the way (functions are values!). In my next role, I seek to further explore my passions, while evolving as a developer and person.

Principles Of Functional Programming Teaching AssistantCarnegie Mellon University School Of Computer Science Jan 2020 - PresentPittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United StatesI serve as a teaching assistant for a course of 150+ students. Responsibilities include leading labs and provide additional instruction during office hours. In addition, I enjoy creating teaching and homework material to further aid student learning. Recently, I revamped the teaching notes for the TAs, making them more accessible and increasing readability. -
Swe InternRoblox May 2021 - Aug 2021San Mateo, California, United StatesI implemented features for iOS and Android applications (Lua frontend, C++/ Java/ Objective-C backend). As there were areas in which the organization lacked strong guidelines, I also contributed to regulation of new organizational processes to ease the development of new features. Not only did I create a new UI for a portion of the app, which improved user experiences, but my features also allowed for greater reusability and reliability in app flows. -
Swe InternGeneral Dynamics May 2020 - Aug 2020I collaborated with a team to build a user-friendly, secure web application with a Typescript/ React frontend and Spring Boot/ MongoDB backend. I also ensured that code met design specifications and behaved correctly with Jest unit tests and Cypress end-to-end testing. Upon the end of my internship, we delivered a MVP to the client, and initial feedback on the project has indicated that it greatly facilitates user workflows. -
Undergraduate Research AssistantComputational Biology Department (Carnegie Mellon University) Jun 2019 - Sep 2019I conducted computational biology research, creating software to drive active learning. Specifically, I built machine learning campaigns for phenotypic classification using SVMs and clustering methods to serve as a comparison to new models the lab was building. I also integrated existing robot software with active learning campaigns to generate robot protocols, allowing the lab to evaluate the performance of the models by conducting high-throughput experimentation.
