This is it.My life is set.But in reality, I was like a hamster, endlessly spinning on life’s unending wheel.I always believed that my life was set when I landed myself a job in the public sector even before graduating from Polytechnic. I was immensely proud of this achievement. Many said it was an ‘iron rice bowl’ as it promised job security, stability, and excellent benefits, making it highly coveted.Little did I know, my journey had just begun. Soon, I realised that despite the stability and security, working in a system bounded by red tapes and mundane routines felt limiting. After six years of running on that hamster wheel, I made the decision to step away.My dad, grounded in his strict traditional values, set a high bar, saying, “You can only quit if you get a position in Temasek Holdings.”In the end, I secured a role in a Government-Linked Company (GLC). Although it wasn’t Temasek Holdings, it provided me valuable insights into the private sector, all while honoring my dad’s expectations. I wasn’t long before I came to the stark realisation that I had merely transitioned into another hamster wheel!Feeling trapped, running endlessly on this path, I decided to take a leap of faith into the unknown. Looking back, that decision became the defining moment that led me to embark on a successful journey in the financial services industry.I truly believe that every experience, whether challenging or rewarding, contributes to growth. My years of corporate experience in customer service have laid a strong foundation, equipping me for the dynamic world of financial services. It has also proven to be invaluable in establishing genuine connections and building strong bonds with my clients over the last 16 years in my financial services advisory work. Moving forward, my dream is to build a team of like-minded women who share my passion for making a positive impact in the financial services industry.
