Name of the class: Visualization of the Metropolitan Landscape The aim of the class was to develop skills of understanding and identifying the identity of a place, through the study of metropolitan landscapes. We studied urban cases that have been marked as ‘places’ due to a specific situation; this was analysed and allowed the understanding of the concept of phenomenology. We also studied cases of edge and limit and the relation between the ecologic space and the urban space, with the aim of developing a criterion to manifest the meaning of resilience and ecosophic urbanism.

I was involved in teaching two different levels of the architecture career program. Tutor for the undergraduate first year course “skills seminar”: I was responsible for a group of 30 students. The program of the course involved drawing and crafting models of outstanding architecture projects in order to understand space and ways of representation. Demonstrator for the post graduate course “MSc Architecture and Urban Design”: I was assisting the tutors in weekly studio reviews.

SEMAICA is an award-winning company, one of the most prestigious construction firms in Ecuador. I was the architect leading the construction of a university campus in Quito. I was a mediator between the design team, the construction team and the client. I was responsible for a team of 400 employees, my main job was to oversee the construction progress, as well as supervising quality control in every aspect of the design. My personal and professional goal was to verify that the overall performance and workmanship was carried out with excellent quality and attention to detail. ENNE Arquitectos is an award-winning studio, the only studio in Ecuador lead by a member of the green building council and it was the first one to get a ‘LEED certification’ in the country in 2014. I was responsible for the final design and drawings of a hybrid building Dwelling/Hotel on the beach of Manta. During my time working in this office I learned a lot about sustainability systems and building materials, including new ways of approaching green but feasible projects.

Arquitectura X is an award-winning design studio lead by two architecture professors who are interested in the innovative use of materials and sustainability. I was leading the final design of three projects, two dwelling developments and one university campus. One of the dwelling projects was a sustainable neighbourhood placed in a eucalyptus forest. The other one a permeable ten storey building that introduces a vertical forest in its façade. I was responsible for a three-member design team where we produced drawings, digital and physical models and presentations.
