Design is a response to a demand for change. Over time, we have used this assertion as a way to connect the objects we create to the values they suggest. But what happens to that object, what happens to us, when that conduit of meaning loses its context and no longer makes sense.Historically, Architecture as an idea has been a fixed solution. It freezes in time the values, materials and methods used to create it.Flexibility and adaptation, however, are the precursors of relevance. The goal of design, while noble in its undertaking, inevitably becomes the evidence of change. The new paradigm for design, is to be a proactive statement- one that asserts, accommodation.

Adjunct FacultyCoca - Center Of Creative Arts Feb 2011 - PresentI have been continuing to develop an Architectural curriculum at COCA St. Louis. This summer I will offer my second course. This class will be targeting 7-9 year olds, and will be called:"The Building Blocks of Architecture"The description that will appear in the course catalog will be:If your child is curious about buildings and loves to try to figure things out, and let's face whose child isn't, then this course will be a wonderful response to these questions. In this course students will work with architect Evan Bronstein as they identify the materials and geometry found in Architecture. We'll reveal, in simple terms and methods, how big buildings are really made up of smaller parts. How they come together will be explored through drawings and model making exercises. This will be a first step in understanding that Architecture is really a series of symbols like our own alphabet. When we put them together properly, they can say something very special about our world. My first course, Be An Architect, is in its third session with enrollment tripling since its opening. This course, although offered first, is actually planned as the second, with "Building Blocks of Architecture" as it's intended prerequisite.Be an Architect (category:Architectural Design)Directed for 10-13 year olds, and will be offered year round.Description:Take a hands on approach to discovering what it means to be an architect! Students will gain a greater appreciation for the neighborhood around them as they explore University City with architect Evan Bronstein. They will learn to map a city block, and to create and draw their own buildings. Students will develop their own floor plans and even make a physical model of their design! A variety of materials and tools will be used to not only explore architectural forms, but also design principles. On the final day of class, students will display their models at COCA for family and friends! -
Adjunct FacultyMaryville University Aug 2010 - PresentI am currently teaching Modern Art and Architecture, in this the Srping Semester of 2012. This course while being administered is continually being refined to impart important concepts about the developments of ideas, the constraints otherwise placed on the artist, and his or her desire to resist these external pressures to redefine and challenge what art is and should be. This course fulfills the academic curriculum for Maryville's Interior Design program and offers students, outside of their major, an elective course that allows them to see the human spirit in action, and find application in their own endeavors. -
