About Evan Cate
I’m an experienced Curriculum Designer and Instructor who has worked in a variety of educational settings. I was originally drawn to classroom teaching because it is intellectual, creative, and relational. I loved working with colleagues to craft enriching curricula that facilitated and enhanced student understanding. As a Humanities teacher, I worked hard to tell stories well, paying particular attention to lost, overlooked, or marginalized narratives. After eight years in the classroom, I transitioned to content design work in education technology. In this new setting, my work remains highly intellectual, creative, and relational. I love collaborating with content, media, editing, and production teams to create robust and challenging course materials for students around the nation and world. In particular, my storytelling has been refined, deepened, and complexified through these interactions – and broadcast to a far wider audience. I’m proud of our work and hopeful for its impact on diverse groups of learners.I’m also always looking for new avenues to tell stories. I’m interested in the stories we tell and how we tell them. I started a film criticism podcast with two teacher friends to unpack stories that are painful to watch yet vital for living. I've engaged with a local nonprofit that creates holistic learning experiences that walk participants through my city’s history of pain and hope. In my life and work, I want to think creatively with others about how we can tell stories that engage, educate, and enrich our communities.Key Competencies: Curriculum Development, Instructional Design, Cross-team Collaboration, Writing, Editing, Research, Online Research, Critical Thinking, E-Learning, K-12 Education, Teaching, Written Communication, Web Content Writing, Interpersonal Skills, Classroom Instruction, Oral Communication, Communication, Google Workplace, Microsoft Office, Leadership Development, Presentation Skills, Content Strategy, Leadership, Content Management, Evaluations, Higher Education, Admissions, Audio Editing, Differentiated Instruction, Project Management, Coaching, On-air Hosting, Interviewing, Nonprofits, Social Media, Social Studies, Film Criticism, Religion, Theology, Community Outreach
