About Evan Cusato
If there is one thing I want to convey, it is the answer to this question: Why am I an engineer?I became an engineer to make a difference, and to do so surrounded by capable, driven, and kind people. I want to create products and solve problems that will add value and make peoples’ lives better. I’m a dreamer and an optimist. I believe that engineers who aren't afraid of the details or the big questions can effectively consider the consequences of their work and change the world for the better. It’s those possibilities themselves that inspire me to be creative. To me, the technical challenge holds only as much value as the impact I can make by surmounting it. I see the creative products of engineering as one of the key ways in which we can make a difference in the lives of others. Whether that’s making everyday tasks a little less difficult or using technology to fundamentally alter human understanding, engineering creates value. I want to be a part of that.
Listed skills include Matlab, Solidworks, Machining, Milling, and 12 others.

Full Scale Test Integration Lead
CurrentIn short, I'm the person you call when something goes wrong. My role is intended to span across teams within our value stream, so that I can help the organization perform more smoothly. Whether it's a thorny technical problem, building relationships across teams, system architecture, or process development, my team relies on me to step in and make the trains run on time.
Test Engineer Ii - Technical Project Lead
As a TPL, I was accountable for the development and sustaining of all custom capital equipment andfacilities for automated testing of >3000 subscale batteries. I had the opportunity to lead a broad field of technical initiatives. I developed new test systems from requirements gathering to operation, led fleet upgrade and maintenance programs, owned safetyincident investigations and 8D root cause analysis, and developed engineering processes across teams.I built relationships with numerous customer teams to understand research goals, develop featureroadmaps, prioritize projects, and secure engineers and technicians to develop our test capabilities.
Test Engineer Ii - Test Operations
Staff Engineer Ii
In addition to my responsibilities under Staff Engineer I-Technical Lead/Program Manager for safety-critical hardware for spacecraft life support systems-Quality Inspector responsible for aerospace hardware first article inspection-Technical Lead for a team developing electromechanical process control systems-Line Manager-Responsible for redesigning product manufacturing and testing facilities using Lean principles and user-oriented design techniques-Mentoring a team of undergrad engineering students
Staff Engineer I
At Giner, I have taken on a wide variety of responsibilities including:-Assembly and test engineer for oxygen-producing electrolyzer stacks for human space flight life support systems-Acting Principle Investigator for SBIR programs-Line Manager for Engineering Interns-Technical lead for government contract development programs in water electrolyzer technology-Lab safety and resource manager, including compressed hydrogen safety and ISO7 clean rooms
Computational Fluid Dynamics Engineer
My mission at Accelerate Wind was to transition their CFD modelling infrastructure from Autodesk Fusion 360 to Ansys. With no prior experience in either platform, I successfully developd a reliable workflow for taking two-dimensional wind turbine geometries and integrating them into an Ansys Fluent turbulent flow model that had been validated with experimental field data from a prototype. I documented the workflows and passed them off to incoming undergraduate interns, who were able to use my framework to rapidly iterate and test new turbine geometries, optimize performance, and inform the design of the next-generation prototype currently being fabricated.
Student Machining Instructor
Train new students in manual mill and lathe operations, oversee Shop safety, perform machining work orders for other members of Ollin College, and Shop design and modernization projects.
Transport Phenomena Teaching Assistant
I teach thermofluids lessons to groups of approximately 10 students to work through the fundamental concepts of fluid motion and heat diffusion, including Bernoulli, Navier-Stokes, and the three common forms of heat transfer. In addition, I hold regular office hours to help students understand key class concepts both conceptually and mathematically. This role has also been a valuable opportunity to explore the different principles of and approaches to effective teaching of technical material to inform my own teaching methods.
Thermal Engineering Intern
I was responsible for designing and testing multiple types of heat exchangers and ground support equipment for use in thermal vacuum testing and space environment simulation of the SWOT geoscience satellite.
Academic Center Redesign Team Founder
I initiated and organized a student design team in the first architectural renovation project at Olin College with the mission to redesign critical academic facilities. We worked with college leadership as a part of an integrated faculty and professional design team, to develop institutional goals, pedagogical objectives, facility programming, and architectural requirements. I led the team to employ user-oriented design principles by engaging with community members and collaboratively developing a product for a broad range of stakeholders
Student Aerostructures Engineer
I worked as a student engineer in the Aerostructures Branch at the NASA Flight Loads Laboratory. While at Armstrong, I was involved with the Spanwise Adaptive Wing project, performing mechanical design and flight operations support.
Machine Shop Redesign Team Member
Working with faculty and shop masters on a dedicated research, design, and development effort to modernize Olin College's machining capabilities, resources, and community access to the facility.
