As an Honors Economics, Philosophy, and Computer Science student and a rising junior at UC Berkeley, I'm particularly interested in Economic Theory, Artificial Intelligence, Metamathematics, and Philosophy. As such, I'm interested in opportunities involving qualitative or quantitative academic research in Economic (particularly Decision) Theory, Theoretical Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or Philosophy. I eventually aim to pursue a PhD in Economics (with a theory focus) and a research position at a university.I'm particularly interested in using insights from theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence to better model our real-world economy: one that is complex and dynamic. Because economies are comprised of creative individuals in our uncertain world, they tend to experience constant, endogenous, path-dependent change. Individuals are subject to fundamental constraints on their computational abilities that can be elucidated via computability and complexity theory assuming the general validity of the Church-Turing Thesis, and their interactions can be studied using insights from neural networks and other facets of artificial intelligence. Economic changes occur in discrete intervals over time and can generate rippling effects in relative prices and expectations, and these insights are difficult to fully capture in typical general equilibrium frameworks, where agents are reduced to optimizing exogenous continuous utility functions. I fundamentally want to study how economies evolve, and apply these theoretical insights to institutional economics, political economy, and macroeconomic theory.Beyond economic theory, I'm a machine learning and philosophy enthusiast and may potentially pursue further graduate studies towards these ends. Throughout my studies, I've developed additional interests in political theory, social psychology, and theoretical physics.
