Conducted fundamental and applied research in two-phase cooling and microfluidics for battery thermal management. Explored novel materials to enable large area vapor chambers, resulting in a patent. Developed an in-operando infrared and interference microscopy set-up to observe evaporation fromsilicon microstructures in order to design better heat pipe wicks. Wrote an image algorithm to process interference fringe images and match them to theoretical solutions modeled in Comsol to evaluate capillarity modeling.Presented at ASME SHTC and published in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces.

• Optimized micro-thermometry measurement for noisy signals using modulated heating and Fourier analysis.• Developed an uncertainty quantification methodology using Monte Carlo methods in Matlab.• Growth and thermal and TEM characterization of carbon nanotubes.• Developed a high thermal conductivity graphite foam.• Developed full-scale prototype thermal batteries using phase change materials for electric vehicles.

Developed a proof-of-concept model in Matlab of a novel multi-point Seebeck thermal sensor (since patented). The model was built upon the full thermoeletric equations. Also worked on SoC thermal floorplan optimization using Ansys Icepak and compact thermal modeling.

Worked on a mix of heat pipe and vapor chamber custom product development projects and also on the DARPA TGP program in conjunction with Univ. of Michigan and UCLA, where we developed and tested novel hierarchical wick structures with sintered copper powder, which at the time yielded record high CHF values and minimum evaporation values. These wicks were incorporated into actual copper vapor chambers as well as vapor chambers with a ceramic low-CTE package to enable direct die attach.

Designed gantry systems with heavy use of SolidWorks.
