  • Jep Readersplus (Usc)
    Site Coordinator
Jep Readersplus (Usc) Aug 2017 - May 2018
    Los Angeles, California
Before the Fall ‘17 Semester, I became the Site Coordinator (SC) at USC’s Joint Educational Project’s ReadersPlus (America Reads America Counts) 32nd St. Branch. As SC, I served as the primary link between ReadersPlus’s Central Staff and the 32nd St. Tutoring Staff, providing insight to Tutors regarding lesson planning, time management, behavior management, communication with teachers, and the administration of academic assessments among other things. I was also the primary link between the 32nd St. School staff and the ReadersPlus Program, addressing any concerns teachers had about their students’ academic progress/needs, processing their requests for assistance with certain students, and initiating communication between themselves and the Tutoring Staff whenever necessary. In addition, I continued to lead weekly site staff meetings during both of the semesters I spent as SC.My responsibilities as SC Included (but were not limited to) the following:-Providing Advice/Insight/Support for the 32nd St. Tutoring Staff regarding all facets of the program.-Digital Correspondence w/ Tutoring Staff regarding important updates, etc. -Scheduling of Literacy and Math Tutoring Staff w/ Students in need of academic assistance for one-on-one sessions.-Leading Weekly Site Staff Meetings-After School Program scheduling, organization, and (partially) Programming-Communication w/ 32nd St. School Staff/Administration - - - -My primary goals as SC were to establish a greater sense of program ownership for both New and Veteran Tutors, to continue to build upon the strong foundational program structure I helped to implement as Assistant Coordinator, and to revise the After School Program placement system to prioritize the students in the greatest need of academic support. Through adjustments such as the implementation of a new placement system and a collaboration-focused Staff Meeting format I was able to make meaningful progress towards each of these goals.
  • Jep Readersplus (Usc)
    Assistant Site Coordinator
Jep Readersplus (Usc) Jan 2017 - Aug 2017
    Los Angeles, California
After having served as a Literacy Tutor with USC’s Joint Educational Project’s ReadersPlus (America Reads America Counts) Program for two semesters, I became the Assistant Site Coordinator at the Program’s 32nd St. Branch in January, 2017. My responsibilities as Assistant Coordinator included those of a Literacy Tutor in addition to providing the Site Coordinator with logistic and administrative assistance while also providing the 32nd St. Tutoring Staff with advice concerning lesson planning strategies, behavior management, and other relevant areas. During the Spring ‘17 Semester, ReadersPlus’s 32nd St. Branch had two separate weekly staff meetings, one of which I led according to a comprehensive agenda containing important information concerning deadlines and lesson planning strategies among other things. I was responsible for ensuring that these meetings ran according to schedule, were clear and focused, and allowed the Tutoring Staff present to gain practical, enriching insights about how best to serve their students and the school community. Overall, my role as Assistant Coordinator required much more communication with the Elementary School’s Administrative and Teaching Staff, the parents of the students enrolled in our After School Program (ASP), and the Tutoring Staff as a whole. Since I still carried the responsibilities of a Literacy Tutor with two students assigned to me for one-on-one sessions, it also allowed me to continue to grow in areas relevant to tutoring and academic support. In addition, the non-tutoring aspects of the position required good communication, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Jep Readersplus (Usc)
    Literacy Tutor
Jep Readersplus (Usc) Feb 2016 - Jan 2017
    Greater Los Angeles Area
As a ReadersPlus (America Reads America Counts) Tutor with USC's Joint Educational Project, my responsibilities included administering Preliminary and Post-Semester Literacy Tests to elementary school students in need of academic assistance as well as using comprehensive literacy tools in order to improve their phonics skills and comprehension in one on one sessions held twice weekly.During my time as a Literacy Tutor, I worked one-on-one with over 8 different students at 32nd Street USC Performing Arts Magnet School and also frequently worked at ReadersPlus’s After School Program (ASP) at the school, providing homework help and guidance during educational enrichment activities. My one-on-one students ranged from first to fifth grade and lesson planning for their different academic needs, unique learning styles, and individual paces required much flexibility, patience, and attention to detail. Before the beginning of the Spring ‘16 Semester in January, 2016 when I first became employed by ReadersPLUS, I received professional training to become a certified Literacy Tutor. The training included methodology based on Graphophonics Theory, Text-To-Self Comprehension Connections, and instruction on how to best aid students with Visual, Kinesthetic, and Auditory Learning Styles. Later on, before the Spring ‘17 Semester I Would particulate in another training to become certified in Math tutoring as well in preparation for my new role as Assistant Site Coordinator for ReadersPlus’s 32nd St. branch.
