Over the past 26 years, I have gained a broad array of legal skills and experience. I am now putting those skills back to work in private practice at Sorem Law!In this new role, my practice will include – Civil Litigation (Business, Collection, Commercial, Contract, Employment, and Real Estate Litigation); Alternative Dispute Resolution; Writs and Appeals; Administrative, Education, Election, Campaign, and Political Law advice and litigation; Commercial Transactions; Prosecution of Workplace Violence Restraining Orders; and more.During the 16 years before 2023 (early 2007 - end 2022), in service to the people of California, I was a Deputy Attorney General for the State of California. In that role, I defend a variety of state agencies (CHP, CalFire, DMV, Fish & Game, Healthcare Services, State Parks, State Hospitals) and employees of those agencies against employment related claims (harassment, discrimination and retaliation), including several state court and administrative trials. My practice included extensive discovery, motion practice (motions for summary judgment/adjudication), negotiations and trials. In addition, I conducted investigations of complaints of legal and/or agency policy violations by state employees and students, and prepared reports of findings and conclusions.During the first 10 years of my legal career (late 1996 - late 2006), I worked as an associate in the Commercial Law and Financial Institutions Group for Gray Cary Ware & Freidenrich (now DLA Piper). I handled multiple significant litigation matters, including all aspects of business bankruptcy and commercial litigation matters from pre-litigation through post-judgment, in both state and federal courts.
