Oct 2018 - Present

Gis Technician

Longwood Institute Of Archaeology

Longwood's archaeology department was contracted in 2017 to analyze shoreline movement and coastal vulnerability using the AMBUR package from R-Forge. In this context, AMBUR accepts polyline inputs which represent digitized coastlines from different time periods; 1937, 1994, and 2013; and then returns predictive values for future recession and aggregation of coastal land area. The department's analysis was used by the client to prioritize excavation sites which were more likely to be impacted by coastal movement. Personal responsibilities on this project: use of ArcMap to digitize the scoped 750 miles of coastline relative to the 2013 aerial survey, produce high resolution line data, and have line data passing QC within the contract's tight deadline. This work was completed during Fall of my senior year to Longwood.

Longwood Environmental Observatory: Technical Intern

Longwood University

Longwood Environmental Observatory (LEO) project. The LEO network is a solar-powered passive wireless sampling system with weather and freshwater monitoring stations. The LEO uses long-range Yagi Wi-Fi antennae on arrays and supplementary relays to transmit data to a router, which transfers the information back to a server at Longwood server via cell tower. Sensors used on LEO arrays included those from from Campbell Scientific, Yellow Springs Instruments (YSI), and Fisher Scientific. These stations were implemented using Arduinos, and are based on source software. Responsibilities included the creation and maintenance of a natural science sensor array, resulting in experience with the use of remote sensing hardware, sensor calibration, hardware troubleshooting, and best practices for continuous / big data.
