I've always loved sales. It’s been my passion since I was a sophomore in college. When I first started, doing door-to-door summer sales, I treated the job like a competitive sport. I had $100 to my name, a wedding on the horizon, and I was eager to chase the money and the No. 1 spot on the leaderboard. It was a lot of fun at times, but ultimately it didn't bring me true happiness. As I grew in my career and personal life (including time spent as a missionary) I learned that what I truly loved were the opportunities to interact with and develop other people. Helping a person make a breakthrough and reach a higher level in their life or career was truly fulfilling. Soon, that push to earn more money and climb to the top of the rankings faded to the background. I saw people put so much emphasis on salary then find years later that they were still chasing happiness and meaning in their work. Inspired by the book Good To Great (by Jim Collins), I knew I had to discover what I was most passionate about in life and find what I was best in the world at. Once I was able to do that, I knew the income would eventually follow.We spend such a large part of our lives working, so why shouldn't we choose a career that lets us do what we love and plays to our strengths? People who love what they do, work harder, longer, and often better than the rest. It’s those types of people that companies search for and will do almost anything to retain.Life is too short to accept anything less than a meaningful career doing something you truly love. I’m fortunate to have discovered where my passions lie early in my career and I’m thankful to the opportunities I have to help others do the same.
