I covered general news stories in the Metro Detroit area, including the 110th NAACP Annual Convention in Detroit in the summer of 2019 and Detroit's Democratic debates a few weeks later. On some assignments — including one where Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer toured an auto supplier plant and another where President Trump flew into Selfridge Air Force base in January 2020 — I was my own photographer. I spent the last six months of my fellowship shooting, writing and producing a five-part documentary series looking at the idea of Detroit's revival since the city's exit from bankruptcy in 2014 through coronavirus impacting the city so drastically beginning in March 2020. This reporting position was part of the Poynter-Koch Media and Journalism fellowship.

I wrote articles that focused on state policy issues within the state of Michigan. The policy areas I wrote about included the state budget, economic incentives, education spending, charter and traditional public school test scores, civil asset forfeiture, licensure, the legal system/criminal justice system, labor law, healthcare, telecommunications, the environment, and energy policy.

I also did an interview series with many of Michigan's 2018 gubernatorial candidates.

As Web Editor I managed the overall maintenance of the newspaper website and made sure that social media feeds were updated. I oversaw the complete rebuild of the newspaper's WordPress website. I launched the publication's online-only section as well as re-started the video production. During the second semester of my senior year, I produced a web show. I also consistently wrote in nearly every issue of the newspaper, writing for every section, and often shooting my own photos.

I wrote general news stories covering events from Lansing to Ann Arbor to Detroit and topics ranging from the sudden popularity of Pokemon Go to the re-organization of Detroit's public school system. I also wrote longer-form stories that covered more complex topics like education.

I wrote unsigned editorials for the editorial page and I managed the DVoice blog.
