I am a lawyer and founder, CEO and managing partner of Schwartz, Conroy & Hack, P.C. I help business and individual insurance policy holders force insurance companies to honor their obligations.I truly enjoy making insurance companies keep the promises they make to their insureds. Insurance companies often treat their policy holders like widgets, all part of their mission to make money.My love for writing started at Boston University where I was a Journalism major. I was the first student from my law school to clerk at the New York Court of Appeals upon graduation. Because the New York Court of Appeals staff knew that I intended to work in the area of insurance recovery, they assigned me many cases involving insurance recovery issues.After the Court of Appeals, I defended insurance companies in insurance recovery disputes at the largest law firm on Long Island. Since 1994, I have represented insurance policy holders, exclusively, in claims and lawsuits against their insurance companies.As an insurance recovery attorney, I have litigated multimillion-dollar cases all over the United States, in Federal and state courts. Those cases have included massive environmental insurance coverage disputes, bad faith lawsuits, and class actions. Some of the areas of insurance recovery that I have litigated include property damage claims, general liability claims, professional liability claims, directors and officers liability claims, first party bad faith claims, third-party bad faith claims, environmental claims, long-term disability claims, long-term care claims, life insurance claims, employment practices liability insurance claims, and cyber insurance claims.My law firm was one of the first law firms in the country to have a dedicated claims unit, representing policy holders in the insurance claims process, rather than in litigation. The firm gets many insurance claims paid or resolved in the claims process, without the need of a lawsuit. I realized that this was an underserved area for insurance policy holders amongst lawyers and law firms.I served as the president of my law school alumni Association for five years, as well as serving as an adjunct professor of insurance law. I have and continue to frequently lecture on areas of insurance recovery to lawyers and insurance brokers.I live in New York City, as do my two adult children and my parents. Outside of work, when I’m not enjoying New York City dining and culture with family and friends, you’ll find me skiing, golfing, hiking or catching live music somewhere.
