I have a wealth of experience in older adult care. I served for a year as a paid person's representative for adults with mental health challenges. I have some experience in special education needs and social, emotional and mental health for young people. At the pinnacle of my career in caring for older adults, I was a domiciliary care team leader and also regularly deputised for the manager of the sheltered housing scheme at Royd court in Mirfield, for The Pilgrim Friends Society. This role was so varied and I was able to prove my versatility, professional aptitude and stamina. The care and domestic team was a solo venture, whilst Royd Court was continually becoming occupied and I gradually built up the team. I then became involved in the recruitment, training and supervision of an effective care team, while retaining on call duties and cover. I regularly covered reception and office duties for the sheltered housing scheme. Welcoming visitors and relatives was an enjoyable part of the everyday work, as was showing prospective beneficiaries around the premises. I organised events for both occupants and staff for special occasions, which is something I particularly enjoy doing. Prior to this I held a position to provide emergency, deputy management cover, travelling to the various homes around the country. My first venture was a four month stint at their Wantage home, Framland in Oxford. I lead the team and had core responsibility for the home in the absence of the manager. This was a momentous challenge, stepping up from a senior carer at the Evington home, Pilgrim gardens. I learnt so much about being an effective leader and grew in my knowledge regarding dementia, medication and care.During my time working for Mosaic Shaping Disability Services I garnered vast knowledge and experience in safeguarding. My role as a Paid Person's Representative for people with mental health challenges, was a year of rapid growth, working largely on my own, managing a caseload.I supported students with SEND and SEMH for Homefield college. Seeing the students grow in experience and achieve beyond expectations was rewarding. I also wrote reports and put together presentations as part of the student's educational health care plan and future transitions. My favourite part of the job was supporting the parents, talking through their concerns and often coming up with resolutions. This proved to be vital during lockdown and the pandemic, while supporting students online became more prevalent and creative thinking was a necessity.
