I am excited to pivot in my career and follow my passion for mental health counseling. The worldwide pandemic brought home to me how much our lives are impacted by the health of our interpersonal connections and the mindset in which we immerse ourselves. I began a soul search that took me through mountains of reading, some wonderful coffee conversations with mental health professionals, and my own dive into an array of therapies both traditional and alternative. In short, mental health fascinates me and I want to join the conversation.I am a first-year student undertaking the M.A. in Mental Health Counseling program at St. Edward's University. My interests are Cluster B personality disorders, trauma management, child and adolescent development, diversity, and spirituality. Specifically, I wish to explore in-depth the impact that caregivers exhibiting a personality disorder have upon developing psyches of their children and how trauma manifests for the person who has grown up with empathy-altered behavioral cues. After my M.A. is complete, I wish to continue this research interest in the form of a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology so that I can better assist my future clients.In addition, I love volunteering in the mental health non-profit space. It is a privilege to assist people in their search for meaning and connection in this world. Understanding the role of therapy in healing trauma and enacting change in people's lives is an education that I seek to obtain with profound gratitude. I look forward to the journey that leads me to becoming a mental health counselor.
