At Microsoft, Everett was on the Windows 7 and Windows Vista teams, and was responsible for managing, writing, and driving the Windows User Experience Interaction Guidelines (known as UX Guide for short). This role enabled Everett to develop expertise across a wide range of user experience specialties and act as an in-house consultant to help teams across the company do their best work.Everett was a recognized voice in Microsoft’s user experience design community, and established himself as a thought leader in areas such as guidelines-based design, scenario-based design, effective use of value propositions and personas, UI text design, wizard design, designing trustworthy user experiences, and simplicity.As a side project, Everett taught Microsoft’s introductory User Experience Design Basics course for three years. This experience gave Everett a deep understanding of the challenges that non-designers have with interaction design, as well as the tools and knowledge they need to be successful. Everett updated Microsoft’s Creating Trustworthy User Experiences course, and taught several other UX design and user research related courses along the way.
