Currently as Sustrans North East Maintenance Supervisor I support the charities physical care of National Cycle Network routes.Previously I've held professional roles as a Schools Active Travel Officer, Sustrans; a Health referral Trail Leader, Cycletrex; and became a Senior Project Officer for BTCV (many moons ago). All at their core involved engaging and empowering people and communities through the use of the outdoors.My initial role in Sustrans took the form of schools and community work, encouraging people to choose to travel in more environmentally sustainable ways.I am expert in practical training and development of volunteers and groups in the field of environmental land management. I was as a Senior Project Officer with the international conservation charity British Trust for Conservation Volunteers. My roles and responsibilities involved:Setting up, running and developing a field office from scratch in rural South East Northumberland in partnership with Castle Morpeth Borough Council.Liaised with rural and urban community groups to secure local, regional and national funding for small scale environmental regeneration projects.Sourced practical conservation work by approaching and tendering for work from Local Authorities, land owners, organisations, architects.Ran BTCV pioneering Green Gym projects. Identified, recruited and mentored Volunteer Officers imparting skills, training and experience. Took role of Health & Safety rep for BTCV North East.Designed, budgeted and ran BTCV Conservation Work Holidays.Organised/managed/recruited/budgeted/planned Lottery funded projects - Peoples Places.Ran and managed a portfolio of community lead green space projects across the North East.Taught in the following:Access - gates & styles, paths inc boardwalks / decking.Countryside furniture.Woodland management (coppicing, tree planting/felling, charcoal making).Traditional field boundary management (hedge laying, fencing, drystone and wetstone walling). Meadow creation.Hard engineering- bridge building.Soft engineering - Riverbank stabilisation.
