I manage media and communications across a range of channels for Sustrans in the North of England. This varied role includes strategic communications planning, writing and editing a range of content for digital, media and social media, running events and activities, training and contributing to bid writing.The UK charity Sustrans works with schools, communities and businesses to make it easier for more people to walk and cycle. We work to create towns and cities which inspire more people to travel actively, and to extend and improve the National Cycle Network. Our talented Northern team includes engineers, designers, educators, academic researchers and policy makers. I work with a wide variety of organisations and individuals including our partners in local authorities, schools, land managers, charities and volunteers.

This role included management of all MOSI’s media work – from planning and implementing individual campaigns or stories, to reactive and crisis management PR, PR support for team members, filming and photography enquiries, drafting reports, monitoring, and writing internal newsletters. Achievements include• Record amounts of media coverage as PR Manager for the Manchester Science Festival, including campaigns for the annual citizen science research projects, eg the science of what makes music catchy, and how this could help treatment for dementia.• Successful media campaign planning and implentation for MOSI’s flagship exhibitions, such as Brains: The Mind As Matter, Doctor Who Up-Close and Gunther von Hagen’s BODYWORLDS, • Development of creative photo opportunities and event ideas to make a story more attractive to media, for example Stargazers’ Valentine night in MOSI’s Planetarium.

Responsible for proactive and reactive public relations on all national issues at SNH. Included writing and distributing press releases, media briefings, photo opportunities and reactive media enquiries on a wide variety of topics - from the impact of wind farms on wildlife, to promotion of National Nature Reserves, to raising awareness of wildlife crime. Editor of the new publication, Sitelines magazine, which aimed to build a new audience of owners and occupiers of sites of special scientific interest.
