After serving in the U.S. army, Sam swapped his camouflage gear for a library card at Villanova University. English degree in hand, he entered the trenches of corporate communications for The Franklin Mint (TFM), promoting TFM’s collectible product and book lines, its museum, and events like the Antique Automobile Festival. Over 8 years, Sam rose through the ranks from Manager to Director to acting Publisher for The Franklin Library. There he oversaw acquisition, production, design, sourcing, royalties, sales, advertising, distribution, and customer service....and got to work with Michael Crichton, John Irving, Susan Sontag, Scott Turow, Anne Rice and other luminaries like Mailer, Wolfe, Bradbury, and Roth.In March of 2001, Sam became director of publicity for Running Press Book Publishers where he oversaw publicity, marketing, and advertising activities. There he planned and executed campaigns for about 180 titles annually, and promoted Pat Croce, Stephen Hawking, Larry Kane, Michael Smerconish, Malachy McCourt, Alex Gracia, Donnie Brasco, Marlo Thomas, John Lithgow, and Mister Rogers - as well as The Palm Restaurants, John Deere, Forbes Collection, and Skinny Bitch. In 2008, Sam joined Rowman & Littlefield to create and run a new Publicity department in their Maryland office; over 6 years, he led many successful campaigns for their trade and academic titles. In August 2014, Sam was named Director of Publicity at Skyhorse Publishing, where he oversaw a team handling 1,000+ new releases annually. And this past year, Sam worked in advertising sales and communications for the digital publisher YourTango, rounding out his experience in advertising, client relations, and B2B outreach. Sam has earned media on Today, GMA, Kimmel, Nightline, The View, O’Reilly, Bill Maher, Oprah, NPR, and the Daily Show, and in Parade, Time, People, Gourmet, Fortune, Nature, Architectural Digest, Bon Appétit, SI, Salon, and Rolling Stone. He still hangs out in the library.
