After serving as a consultant to Cincinnati-based clients, Leslie Stevenson has decided to pursue academic professional development in public policy in Boston. “I am grateful to be accepted as a Polly Logan Scholar in the Gender, Leadership and Public Policy (GLPP) Graduate Certificate Program at the Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Like Polly Logan, I am energized when working to promote empowerment of women, especially our engagement in decision-making processes,” Stevenson said.“I applied to the program because I want to be trained to ‘apply basic principles of policy making and analysis in governmental and nongovernmental policy settings…and determine opportunities and approaches for effectively influencing policy formation to create a more equitable and just society,’” Stevenson wrote in her scholarship application.“This particular student learning outcome bears witness to my vision of creating structures that allow women to experience right relationships with God, themselves and others, and to perpetuate dignity and justice in everyday life,” explained Stevenson.“As my understanding of the public policy process grows, I look forward to marrying my direct involvement in policy research with my core beliefs about the role women hold in communities and the value of education in creating a hope-filled lens through which to imagine new outcomes for existing structures of governance,” Stevenson continued.“Being part of a diversity of citywide initiatives has been challenging and rewarding. I acknowledge the colleagues who have supported my personal and professional development these past seven years in Cincinnati. In each staff and volunteer role, I became a better person because of the people who influenced and inspired me to be the best version of me,” Stevenson concluded.
