OPANAL is the intergovernmental Agency for the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean created in 1969 to safeguard the Nuclear-Weapons-Free Zone of the LA-Caribbean region and promote the principles established in the Treaty of Tlatelolco (1967). The 33 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean are part of the Zone and of OPANAL. One of its three main organs is the Secretariat. Its headquarters are located in Mexico City. The Agency's ultimate goal is total and complete nuclear disarmament.// El Organismo para la Proscripción de las Armas Nucleares en la América Latina y el Caribe (OPANAL) fue creado en 1969 para mantener el estatuto militarmente desnuclearizado de la zona. Hoy en día los 33 Estados latinoamericanos y caribeños son parte de la Zona Libre de Armas Nucleares establecida por el Tratado de Tlatelolco (1967). Uno de los 3 órganos principales es la Secretaría cuya sede se encuentra en la Ciudad de México. Trabajamos por un mundo libre de armas nucleares.
