I call myself a "Faciliteacher" since I have moved from the traditional model of education, where I am the expert in the room, to a place where I collaborate with students to teach them how to learn. We work on the skills necessary to be successful in life - skills that often translate into success on the standardized tests. I share what I have learned via professional development for Plymouth-Canton and have presented PD for several other districts including Lakeview, Gibraltar, and Grand Rapids Public schools. I also attend and often speak at education and technology conferences such as BLC, MACUL, MITS, MCTE, ISTE, and MAS/FPS.I am happy to conduct 1 hour through all-day PD but am even happier with my students where I am on a quest to "change the world one classroom at a time."My favorite lessons teach the students that there are no (meaningful) awards for doing the same thing as everyone else; instead - they will be rewarded for innovative or interesting thinking and doing - and ones where they take control of the classroom and teach me new material and ideas. I also love to travel with students and have been fortunate enough to visit England, France, Italy, New Zealand, and Australia.
