About Jim Faherty Mbacp

I've been working with young people since 2005, in teaching, student support, careers & university guidance, and mental health & wellbeing.I am a professional listener (I am registered on the BACP Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists - MBACP: 377071) and there's nothing more I love than to sit down with an individual and hear their story told in their words. Even better if we can get a cup of tea going.I spent over four years living in China (and a further 4 years visiting for business trips), and my first degree was in Mandarin Chinese (Modern & Classical). While not as fluent as I used to be, I can still hold my own in a conversation, and I read and write too (both simplified and traditional).I've also lived across Asia in Singapore - where I completed a postgraduate diploma in Counselling Psychology - Hong Kong (through the pandemic years - oof!) and most recently in Bali, Indonesia. I have a deep interest in the languages and cultures of east and southeast Asia, and, along with Chinese, have formally studied Japanese, Tagalog and Bahasa Indonesia (though not to the same degree of fluency).I recently completed a Masters in Psychotherapy with Leeds Beckett University, with a research focus on the effects of outdoor therapy on clients with ADHD.
