I am currently involved with two of the largest textile sector projects of GIZ in Asia, one of which is the bilateral one "Sustainability in the Textile and Leather Industry in Bangladesh (STILE)" and the other regional namely "Promoting sustainability in the textile and garment industry in Asia (FABRIC)". I am directly involved in the Environment component of both projects. In STILE I am managing important stakeholders such as the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Climate Change (MOEFCC) and Department of Environment (DOE) with the objective to improve the legal framework for the environmental aspect in the textile sector, capacity development of DOE and engaging the labour-force and the community to have increased awareness in the textile sector related to environmental sustainability.In FABRIC component across the regional countries i.e. Bangladesh, Vietnam and Pakistan. I am also Assisting activities of the environment component in other countries of the region namely Cambodia and on a very limited scale in China. Developing capacity development measures (country measures and training and advisory services) for the multipliers (consultants, technical advisors, academia etc.) in the regional countries, elaborating them in concept notes followed by implementation, monitoring and evaluation.

I was responsible for the environmental component of the Promotion of Social and Environmental Standards in the Industries (PSES) project as a Senior Advisor with an objective to create an enabling environment for the businesses to ensure sustainable integrated sludge management (SISM). In this project we have helped a private sector business (Geocycle of Lafarge-Holcim) to get established as a hazardous waste management facility who is capable of disposing textile ETP sludge sustainably according to the guideline developed by DoE with support of GIZ, namely the “Bangladesh Standards and Guideline for Sludge Management”. Apart from that our other successes were briefly as follows1. Development of successful business case/model for SISM based on regional experiences 2. Training and capacity development of more than 100 Department of Environment officials in topics of Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) and, wastewater treatment, monitoring, management and inspection3. Managed and coordinated a team of experts drafting rules on treatment, storage and disposal facilities (TSDF)4. Developed innovative technologies and methods to improve ETP performance, optimize sludge toxicity and production and organized a webinar on the topic for larger industry audience5. Developed guidelines on safe restart of ETPs, arranged webinar on the same topic which was attended by more than 370 textile factories
