Software EngineerGoogle Sep 2018 - Feb 2020Sydney, New South Wales, AustraliaAt Google I was primarily working on Chromium, with a particular focus on offline web apps on desktop. My contributions included design and implementation work on the Badging API, implementing the custom tab bar for desktop PWAs, and designing and implementing a prototype of a new File Handling API for Progressive Web Apps (PWAs). This work was largely C++ based, though I also did standardization work for these APIs. -
Software EngineerEnvoy Advanced Technologies May 2017 - Aug 2018Sydney, New South Wales, AustraliaI was employed at Envoy Advanced Technologies where I worked on a number of projects, including a piece of enterprise software for managing building certifications, using ASP.NET and Knockout; a cross platform mobile app for building inspectors, using Xamarin Forms; an iOS app written in Swift to showcase a new video streaming algorithm; and a corporate travel product, written in dotnet core 2.0, React and TypeScript. -

ResearcherJade Software Corporation Nov 2015 - Feb 2016Christchurch, New ZealandOverviewI received a job at Jade in research and development, funded by a Callaghan Grant. My work there had three main aspects.LINZ DataThe first part of my work at Jade involved integrating the land parcel information provided by Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) into an ongoing project. This work involved heavy use of the following:C# for modifications to the back end (which was written in ASP.NET).JavaScript for leaflet integration on the front endLeaflet for displaying maps and land parcels on the clientVarious HTML/CSS/SCSS modifications to ensure the data was formatted properlyDetecting Buildings from Satellite ImagesFor various reasons Jade was interested in being able to detect buildings from satellite images, such as those provided by Google maps. I was assigned to research the feasibility of adding this to the project.I read a number of research papers on the subject aggregated a large number of positive and negative samples and put together a couple of demo applications. These included a Haar Cascade, based on the OpenCV cascade and a sliding window neural network, using the Accord.Net framework. All solutions were written using C# and the various tools for putting together the datasets used a combination of C# and python.Clustering MarkersJade also needed to be able to display a large number of map pins, both on their Xamarin forms iOS and Android applications and on their Leaflet.js based web portal.Clustering on the leaflet map was trivial, as I just reused an existing library, however, I had to create a solution from scratch for the Xamarin Forms projects, as it is a relatively immature platform. In the end, I opted for a grid based approach, where you divide the map into a number of boxes depending on the current zoom level. The work was greatly complicated by the different ways that the map controls work on iOS and Android (for example, iOS measures elevation in meters while Android's map control works in slippy coordinates). -
Software Engineering InternOrion Health Nov 2014 - Feb 2015Christchurch, New ZealandOverviewI got a job as an intern at Orion Health through a scholarship. My work there can be broken into three main parts:Part 1: Clinical PortalI was embedded in one of Orion's existing development teams, working on their Clinical Portal product, a piece of software that facilitates management of a hospital. I fixed bugs in the Java back end and web portal, as well as adding some small new features.Part 2: Patient PortalAll ten interns we placed in a team and told to fix a number of bugs that were stopping the Patient Portal product (a patient facing interface for viewing data like test results) on touch screen devices. This work mostly consisted of minor SCSS/SASS/CSS changes, though some bugs required more extensive JavaScript fixes.Part 3: Stress Testing FrameworkA few of the more advanced interns, myself included, were asked to put together a Rhapsody module (Orion's in house system for communicating with legacy systems hospitals may have in place) for stress testing newly setup environments. This work required extensive scripting in JavaScript (Rhapsody uses it as a scripting language) as well as an in depth understanding of HL7 and the product as a whole.
