About Farah Farouque
In October 2024, I was appointed CEO at the Ethnic Communities Council of Victoria (ECCV).Dynamic executive manager, policy analyst, advocacy and government relations strategist who took up the role of Director of Community Engagement at Tenants Victoria in April 2020 amid the intensity of the pandemic. I led a multi-disciplinary team of professionals straddling policy, training/legal education, strategic communications and community development. Have managed diverse teams and developed and delivered projects in high-pressure situations at the national welfare group, the Brotherhood of St Laurence, the Canberra and Victorian parliamentary press galleries as a journalist for The Age, and not-for-profit boards serving multicultural communities. In 2012, I joined the Brotherhood of St Laurence as a key advisor to then Executive Director Tony Nicholson and appointed to the Executive Team. Broad responsibilities in this role include conceptualising, directing and delivering the organisation’s influential national campaign for youth employment. In the deadline-driven newsroom setting of The Age, appointed to senior roles including as the publication’s first Social Affairs Editor and as Law and Justice Editor. Skills and resilience tested in challenging domestic and international crisis assignments, including reporting the human impact and aftermath of the 2002 Bali bombings and 2004 Asian tsunami disaster for The Age and Sydney Morning Herald.
