Project involved mixed alcohol synthesis using Molybdenum Disulfide and Copper Zinc Oxide catalysts in a batch reactor. Syngas (mixture of Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide) was used with catalysts to screen for optimal operating conditions to increase Ethanol formation. Batch processes were run at various temperatures and high pressure. Analysis of gas samples at various operating conditions was performed using GC. The main focus was to optimize for Space Time Yield, Carbon Conversion and Selectivity of Ethanol. Variables taken into consideration: nano-sizing of catalyst, different solvents, varying temperatures and surfactant concentration.
