As a PhD candidate I specialize in the fluid dynamics of blood to improve cardiovascular disease diagnostics. My research connects both theoretical and experimental approaches to understand blood rheology and make it an accessible technique. I am passionate about transferring R&D innovations out of the lab to commercialized technologies to maximize the impact of scientific research.Throughout my PhD, I have developed many skills. My experimental work includes expertise in rheometry, microscopy, microfluidic flow chamber design/construction/analysis, static light scattering, and red blood cell separations. On the computation side I use machine learning (sci-kit learn), constitutive modeling, parameterization, optimization, controls theory, and particle image velocimetry, primarily through Python and MATLAB. Other software and tools I leverage are Simulink, COMSOL, Fluent, Minitab, and LaTeX. Additionally, I am proficient in 3D CAD with OnShape and AutoCAD, which is crucial for my microfluidic device design.The key piece of my academic career are the skills I have developed in scientific communication. My experiences with teaching undergraduates, writing academic publications/abstracts, entrepreneurship training, and presenting at national and international conferences have made me an effective and compelling science communicator. I believe that science is of little use unless we can clearly and accurately communicate it to both technical and non-technical audiences.
