Whilst I was studying on the PGCE I realised that I loved working one-to-one with learners and found myself planning lessons so that I was able to spend time with each individual student. Once I had trained as I teacher I found myself in a role that allowed me to assist and support learners on a one-to-one level who had disabilities such as, Autism, Dyslexia and ADHD. I currently manage a caseload of university students and monitor their academic progress throughout the year, working flexibly with them and maintaining regular contact.I enjoy watching learners confidence in themselves grow and their academic skills improve throughout the course of the academic year and the varied pace and topics that my students cover means my day is never boring. Working with learners, usually on a weekly basis, helps to build up positive relationships over the course of their degree and together we overcome any barriers the student may face so that they can achieve their goals. Working one-to-one outside of the classroom is a great way for students to focus independently on their work and bounce ideas off myself, as well as improving skills such as, research, referencing and literacy skills. I am passionate about my role and feel a huge amount of pride each year when my students graduate with their degrees.
