Developing unique and innovative solutions to challenging engineering problems is what fuels my career ambitions. I'm driven by a desire to seek out the optimal solution, regardless of how elusive it may be.As a Computer-Aided Engineer (CAE), I utilize Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other numerical simulations to evaluate and improve complex engineering systems. By employing industry-standard problem solving techniques such as Five Whys (Root Cause Analysis), Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and the Shainin Method, I help clients overcome engineering obstacles and optimize their product design. I take pride in every project that I work on and find a great deal of joy in helping clients bring well-engineered products to market. With 15 years of experience as a consulting engineer, I've had the unique opportunity to work on a diverse array of products across a number of industries: automotive, aerospace, defense, and consumer goods, to name a few. I've worked with and characterized a wide range of materials including heat-treated steel, cast and extruded aluminum, carbon fiber composites, elastomeric foam, rubber and thermoplastics. The broad base of engineering skills I've garnered as a result have enabled me to lead engineering teams, manage large-scale methodology development projects, and compete in (and win!) several automotive OEM design competitions.Outside of work, you can often find me on the golf course (searching for the optimal solution to my slice). I also enjoy spending time in northern Michigan with my wife and daughter, camping, hiking, and fishing. If you want to chat about CAE, FEA, or product development, I would love to get in touch!

Senior Analytical Engineer, Project ManagerAam - American Axle & Manufacturing May 2017 - Dec 2019Detroit, Mi, UsAmerican Axle & Manufacturing is a leading automotive supplier of driveline systems, including axle assemblies, propeller shafts, and electric drives. While working at AAM, I was responsible for evaluating and improving driveline systems through the use of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other numerical simulation techniques. I was also tasked with managing a global methodology development project focused on replacing physical testing with high-fidelity CAE workflows. Through analytical correlation and statistical modeling, we successfully reduced First Time Quality issues and substantially decreased product development testing costs. While employed by AAM, I gained a deep understanding of axle systems, including the fundamentals of design, testing, validation and value engineering. Some of the accomplishments that I am most proud of include: - Successful management of a large-scale, global CAE methodology development project - Development of analytical methodologies for predicting CV-Joint rubber boot durability, carbon fiber propeller shaft strength and fatigue, and heat-treated cross-pin strength, fatigue and abuse - Creation of a material database which included management of substantial material testing -
Lead Project EngineerCaelynx May 2005 - Dec 2019Ann Arbor, Michigan, UsCaelynx is a respected engineering consultancy specializing in Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA).Throughout my 14-year tenure at Caelynx, I was involved in nearly all aspects of the engineering workflow. My job responsibilities included performing advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations on complex engineering systems, leading long-term product development projects, managing offsite engineering resources, providing technical support for the sales team, and delivering Dassualt-certified, expert support for the Simulia simulation portfolio (Abaqus, FE-Safe, Tosca, ISight, etc.).During my employment, I garnered a wealth of engineering experience across numerous industries and honed my technical skills in order to become a respected simulation expert. A few of my key achievements include: - Evaluated and optimized multiple automotive components which won OEM design competitions - Grossed the largest one-year services revenue in company history - Secured the largest staffing contract in Caelynx history -
Analytical EngineerToyota Motor Corporation Jan 2010 - Jul 2013Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, JpToyota Motor Corporation is the largest automobile manufacturer in the world. As a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) engineer at Toyota, my primary focus was on evaluating and optimizing the body in white (BIW) welding strategy in order to ensure vehicle durability and reduce manufacturing costs. I was also responsible for analyzing the strength and fatigue behavior of automotive closures including hood and trunk latches, vehicle doors, and tailgate systems. Additionally, I assisted with physical testing and correlation activities intended to improve the overall accuracy of analytical predictions.Throughout the course of my employment at Toyota, I learned a great deal about the architecture of automobiles, the intricacies of high-volume seam and spot welding, and the overall OEM workflow associated with full-scale vehicle development. A couple of the most interesting projects I worked on include: - Development of Toyota's first three-piece truck bumper which resulted in cost savings of several million dollars over the life of the vehicle and for which I was awarded VE of the Year - Evaluation of Toyota's first all-electric RAV4 vehicle created in partnership with Tesla
