I have been in the field of materials and structural integrity engineering for over a decade. Having started my career as a student intern and developed it via an industrially based doctoral project and post-doctoral research for a number of prestigious industrial players, I believe my experiences could be considered 'the best of both worlds'.I am currently working as Principal and Chief Engineer at Fidelis Engineering Associates; a company that my associate and I founded with the aim of providing advanced FEA solutions for leading innovators in a range of industries. Previous positions include working as a Senior Analytical Engineer at American Axle Manufacturing, where I successfully developed advanced analytical methods for the prediction of failure in axle components and assemblies, and as a Research Associate for The University of Manchester. This diverse range of positions has allowed me to flex both my academic and industrial muscles. My academic work has included writing and publishing a number of journal papers, guiding the direction of a number of future PhD projects and also generating technical reports on failure analysis and fracture mechanics for the university's industrial partners. I was also able to head up a significant knowledge transfer project, which culminated in my contribution of a number of chapters to the R6 nuclear structural integrity guidance procedure – something I am extremely proud of.I consider myself a tenacious engineer who is always prepared to 'think outside the box' to achieve results. This mind-set proved particularly valuable during my doctoral study, throughout which I was awarded for Outstanding Technical Content by the ASME Pressure Vessels and Piping Division at their 2012 international conference. I would also describe myself as a straight-forward and candid worker – I don’t like to ‘beat about the bush’ – and I am genuinely enthused by engineering as a whole. As well as a doctorate, I have a 1st Class Masters degree in Materials Science and Engineering and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Enterprise Management, both from The University of Manchester.
